Bocconi launches a new international business school in Mumbai
December, 2011. Università Bocconi, through SDA Bocconi School of Management, has strengthened its presence in India by launching MISB Bocconi, the Mumbai International School of Business Bocconi .
Thanks to the experience and the high academic standards of Bocconi, Italy’s leading university in the fields of economics and management, and its business school SDA Bocconi, ranked among the top 10 European business schools by the Financial Times, MISB Bocconi will offer Indian postgraduate students and managers an elevated academic standard with a strong international outlook.
Through its alliance with Ultimate Knowledge System, a group of young Indian entrepreneurs, Università Bocconi has set up an Indian trust through which the school will be managed. Bocconi will guarantee the quality of the courses in accordance with international academic standards and also draw upon its network of Indian corporate partners with which it already works to offer internships and work experience for its students.
The first programme offered by MISB Bocconi, as of July 2012, will be the Postgraduate Programme in Business, a high-level international management programme centered on the realities of Indian business and markets. A mix of Indian, international and Bocconi faculty will teach on the course.
The programme, structured in two modules of 11 months each, will be a combination of theory and practice, carried out in close contact with the business world. The first module will cover disciplines such as marketing, economics, corporate strategy and finance, concluding with a summer project that includes an internship, an entrepreneurial project or a research project. The second module will include the option of studying abroad in a Bocconi partner school or on an exchange semester at Bocconi’s campus in Milan and a group consultancy project in close collaboration with a company.
"MISB Bocconi opens up a new path of possibilities for our university’s internationalization strategy,” said Guido Tabellini, rector of Università Bocconi, at today’s press conference to present the new school. "It is in fact the first initiative with which, together with our entrepreneurial partners, we have offered a postgraduate education programme aimed exclusively at Indian students and managers as opposed to only Italians.”
"We have chosen India because of the Indian market’s strong demand for managerial education and the deep-rooted experience Bocconi already has in this country, which began when we signed our first agreement with a partner university back in 2000,” said Tabellini.
The university has over 200 partner schools on all five continents and currently offers its students 16 double degree programmes, one of which is with the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad.
To complete MISB Bocconi’s offer, the school will also launch executive education programmes for Indian and multinational companies operating on the Indian market, in fields such as finance, entrepreneurship and family business, as well as fashion/design management, which will draw upon the experience of SDA Bocconi School of Management.
