The Huffington Post UK Announces Its First New Section Since Launch: HuffPostUK Universities & Education
London, August 2011: The AOL Huffington Post Media Group, a leading source of news, opinion, entertainment, lifestyle and digital information, announced today the launch of HuffPostUK Universities & Education, The Huffington Post UK’s first new section since going live last month. Timed to launch on A-Level results day, the section combines real-time news and opinion, and a passionate and engaged community powered by the latest social engagement tools to cover the broad and rapidly-changing field of education.
HuffPostUK Universities & Education enables users to share and debate a wide range of viewpoints, from politicians, academics and journalists to parents, students and teachers. HuffPostUK Universities & Education captures the education debates and critical issues facing families and individuals, including entering children into the best primary schools, bullying in secondary schools and the steeply escalating costs of education.
Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief of AOL Huffington Post Media Group, said: "I'm excited about the launch of HuffPost UK Universities & Education, both because I went to university in England, and because HuffPost College has been an incredible success -- creating a dynamic platform for partnerships with 115 U.S. college newspapers, and a place to find great content provided by students, professors, and university presidents.”
Carla Buzasi, Editor-in-Chief, The Huffington Post UK said: "As the daughter of two teachers, education is a subject I feel especially passionate about, so I’m delighted that the first addition since we launched will be HuffPostUK Universities & Education. With education undergoing some of the most dramatic changes in decades, including University fees approaching all-time highs, there’s never been a more important time to give students, educators - -and anyone who cares about education -- a platform to have their views heard.”
The section will feature contributions from a diverse range of voices including Andy Burnham, Shadow Secretary of State for Education; Liam Burns, President of the NUS; Calum Macdonald, Cambridge Union President; Professor Colin Talbot from Manchester Business School; SirajDatoo, Editor of The Student Journals; Leo Boe, President of Warwick University Union; and Sarah Ebner, author of The Starting School Survival Guide and The Times’ School Gate blogger.
