Space Studies Program


Graz, Austria: ― From 11 July to 9 September, the beautiful city of Graz in Austria will welcome more than 120 space professsionals from 31 different nationalities with mixed backgrounds, to attend an extensive nine-week program dedicated to space. The 24th ISU’s Space Studies Program will gather graduate students and professionals on the campus of the Technology University of Graz  - TU Graz.

"With its historic scientific excellence, TU Graz is an ideal host for the SSP. Space Science has become an outstanding core competency TU Graz that will benefit our participants who are preparing for, or in some cases already hold leadership roles in the space sector” says Dr Angie Bukley, Associate Dean of ISU and SSP Director.
On this occasion, TU Graz, the city of Graz and the region of Styria will host the Opening Ceremony at the OLD UNIVERSITY building on 9 July. During this event, the Governor of Styria Mr Voves, the city of Graz Councillor Mr Rüsh, will meet with the Space community, in particular with Head of DLR (German Space Agency) Dr Johann Wörner and many other key actors from the space sector.
The areas of strength of Graz University of Technology are combined in five interdisciplinary fields of expertise. These key fields make up the scientific fingerprint of the university at the heart of Europe on its journey to the international pinnacle. Excellent contacts with industry and business can be seen in numerous participations in scientific competence centres and research networks. Co-operations with scientific partner institutes act as a further dynamo to success. Scientists carry out research and development at the highest level in the seven faculties and their 100-plus institutes. All these factors relate to ISU’s international, interdisciplinary and intercultural credo.

With its active participation in international and national space projects in the areas of satellite communication & navigation, remote sensing, satellite geodesy, and space science TU Graz is in an excellent position to host and contribute to the prestigious Space Studies Program ” says Hans Sünkel, rector of TU Graz.
The Space Studies Program is an itinerant course which takes place every year in a different part of the world. In 2010, it was held in Strasbourg, France and will be hosted by Florida Tech and NASA Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA in 2012.
